Lessons from 27 Years in Technology and International Trade

Connecting Global Trade, Technology, and Innovation, in a journey across industries, continents, and digital transformation

Global commerce is undergoing one of the largest transformations in modern history. Digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and connected infrastructure are rapidly reshaping how companies build, produce, and trade across borders.

Over the past three decades, my professional journey has taken place right at the intersection of technology development, international trade, and large-scale infrastructure systems. Working across these domains has provided a unique perspective on how industries evolve — and where the next opportunities emerge.

Learning from Global Infrastructure

I spent 16 years working in the travel, leisure, and aviation industries, sectors where operations span continents and where reliability, logistics, and customer experience must work seamlessly together.

These industries are essentially global ecosystems. Airlines, airports, transportation networks, and digital systems must operate in real time, across borders and cultures.

I became involved in one of the early digital infrastructure initiatives in Denmark — I developed and delivered the first WiFi network in public transportation, connecting people traveling on trains, buses, and ferries.

At the time, it was more than just connectivity. It represented the beginning of a new era where physical infrastructure and digital services would become deeply integrated.

27 Years at the Core of Technology Development

Alongside my work in international industries, I have spent more than 27 years working with IT development and technology innovation.

Over that time, the role of technology has fundamentally changed. What once supported business operations has now become the primary engine for entirely new industries and business models.

My work has included developing technologies such as:

  • Augmented Reality navigation solutions, enabling intuitive interaction between people and complex environments
  • AI-based trading and decision systems, designed to enhance efficiency and data-driven strategies
  • digital infrastructure and app platforms connecting digital and physical services with intelligent systems

Technology has reached a point where it can fundamentally reshape industries that previously evolved slowly.

But technology alone is not enough. Real transformation happens when technology is combined with deep industry understanding.

Building Global Production Networks

For more than 15 years, I have also been deeply involved in product development and manufacturing in China, working directly with suppliers, production partners, and international supply chains.

Developing products across continents provides an entirely different perspective on global trade. It reveals the complexity behind every physical product — from design and engineering to manufacturing, logistics, and market entry.

Through these experiences, I have built strong international networks and partnerships, particularly between Scandinavia, Asia, and the United States.

Each region brings different strengths:

  • Asia drives global manufacturing scale
  • Scandinavia leads in digital infrastructure and trust-based collaboration
  • The United States remains the global engine of venture capital and technological scale

Connecting these ecosystems creates powerful opportunities for companies operating internationally.

The Convergence of Trade and Technology

Today, we are witnessing the convergence of several powerful forces:

  • digital platforms
  • artificial intelligence
  • global production networks
  • connected infrastructure

These forces are reshaping how companies operate globally.

Industries that once functioned separately are now merging. Manufacturing integrates with software. Logistics integrates with data platforms. Physical infrastructure becomes digitally connected and intelligent.

This transformation opens the door for entirely new ecosystems in global commerce.

A New Era of Global Platforms

In the coming decade, the companies that succeed internationally will not only be those with strong products or technologies.

They will be those capable of building global ecosystems that combine:

  • technology innovation
  • international production capabilities
  • digital platforms
  • trusted global partnerships

The future of global commerce will belong to organizations that understand how to connect these elements into scalable, intelligent networks.

Looking Ahead

After decades of working across industries, technologies, and international markets, one thing remains clear: we are still at the beginning of this transformation.

I first got to know Harri Eskelin through my international network and Finnish business contacts I met in China during the winter of 2019. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have maintained a close connection, meeting many times in Denmark and Finland. Over the years, we have shared in-depth strategy and development sessions, shaping the vision for the GPI ecosystem. Today, I am proud to be a business partner with Harri, collaborating to build a global network that integrates technology, international trade, and innovative platform solutions.

The next generation of global innovation will be built by people and organizations capable of bridging worlds — connecting production with software, infrastructure with intelligence, and markets with global collaboration.

I look forward to continuing that journey — contributing to the development of new technologies, platforms, and partnerships that enable companies to operate and grow across borders in an increasingly connected world.
